Courtney earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton, where she was a member of the Honors Biology Fraternity and the Women’s Club Field Hockey and Lacrosse teams. Courtney also spent a semester abroad at the University of Malaga, in Malaga, Spain. After graduating in 2012 with a B.A. in History, Courtney accepted an academic scholarship to attend the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
Following her first year, she served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Marianne O. Battani in the Federal Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Courtney earned the Book Award in Constitutional Law, Commercial Real Estate, and Criminal Trial Clinic courses, and was awarded the Virginia and Leo Sirotnak Scholarship following her second year. She was the Secretary of the Women’s Law Caucus and competed on the Moot Court team at the local and national levels.
Courtney was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in November 2015. She served as a Wayne County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney. She gained invaluable trial experience, independently trying dozens of felony cases. She left the Prosecutor’s Office to begin her career in civil litigation, and worked for a high-volume Plaintiff’s firm. Since joining Hackney Grover, Courtney has concentrated on Insurance Defense Litigation.
