Richard K. Grover, Jr. graduated from Michigan State University’s Business School in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He attended Michigan State University on an athletic scholarship and played varsity golf for four years. He served as Team Captain for three seasons. He then attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School from 1981-1984, where he graduated cum laude. While attending law school, Mr. Grover was elected editor of the Michigan Opinion Notes and was awarded the Harry A. Garr Moot Court Scholarship for his excellence in the Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, Mr. Grover was selected as the recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Student Award.
Mr. Grover has practiced law for more than 25 years, and is recognized as a leader in medical malpractice defense litigation, insurance litigation, and corporate law. He has led the firm in numerous successful trials, including cases against his corporate clients involving claims of multiple millions of dollars.
Prior to founding Hackney Grover, Mr. Grover was a partner at the law firm Cholette, Perkins & Buchanan, P.C.
Mr. Grover is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Grand Rapids Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Mr. Grover has been selected by Martindale-Hubbell to be included in the Bar Register of AV Preeminent Lawyers. The AV Preeminent Rating is earned through a strenuous peer review rating process, which is managed and monitored by the world’s most trusted legal resource, Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Grover has also been selected as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. The Michigan Chapter of this honorary society is limited in size to one-half of one percent of all lawyers in the state of Michigan.
In addition, Mr. Grover has been awarded the Robert E. Dice Award in recognition of the most outstanding Michigan attorney in the defense of physicians in medical liability litigation. He has also been named in Super Lawyers and has been selected by his peers to be included in Best Lawyers in America.
Mr. Grover and his two sons are actively involved, on multiple levels, in the effort to find a cure for breast cancer. In addition to spending time with his sons and practicing law, Mr. Grover enjoys all sports, including watching numerous youth sports teams he sponsors in West Michigan, several of which have won State Championships.
